Brick Bat Coba – Waterproofing Method

The process of brick bat Coba entails the following unequivocal steps:

1. Cleaning the surface

- For existing or old slabs, utilize a hard wire brush to decisively remove the top coat and cleanse it with water. Rectify any cracks found on the slab.

- For newly constructed slabs, ensure the surface is rigorously roughened by scraping to facilitate robust bonding with the cement slurry.

2. Applying cement slurry and base coat

- Apply cement slurry with the stipulated consistency to the slab surface, cracks, and holes. The slurry used is 2.75 kg of cement per square meter, with a thickness of 25 mm and a mix ratio of 1:4.

3. Placing of Brickbat

- Place thoroughly soaked brickbats at a precise distance of 15-20 mm from each other on the cement slurry.

4. Laying of a Protective Coat of cement mortar

- Prepare cement mortar of an unwavering 1:4 ratio with a waterproofing compound. Ensure the waterproofing compound does not exceed 3% of the total weight of grey cement used. Finish the surface with a resolute wooden/steel hand float.

5. Curing

- Cure the brick bat waterproofing for an unwavering minimum of 7 to 10 days using pond curing, gunny bag curing method, etc.

Advantages of Brickbat Coba:

- Economical waterproofing method

- Quick completion

- Utmost utilization of masonry brick wastage for waterproofing

Disadvantages of Brickbat Coba:

- Adds an unavoidable dead load to the structure

- Challenging to repair if cracks form

- Mandates skilled workmanship for the indisputable installation Certainly!
